Trim cylinder rebuild

I noticed that the circlip on one of the trim cylinders had come loose. Since these are the original 1988 ones it might be a good time to rebuild them. I have already replaced the pump. Should I wait till they start leaking or will I be ahead of the game by rebuilding them now?

The circlip on one of my trim cylinders has been loose since I owned the boat - over two years now - with no problem. I certainly don't plan on rebuilding or replacing till it leaks!
