I'm refurbishing my 1986 SunRunner, replacing the engine, a Mercruiser GM 305/5.0, 228hp. Since the old engine is out, should I pull the transom plate and replace any seal or gasket that it has? This is no sign of any leakage. Am I asking for trouble pulling everything apart ("If it ani't broke, don't fix it!") or would I be smart doing preventative replacement? The boat had been on the hard for 2 years.

Re: Transom Plate Seal

Thanks, Bond-O. That's kind of what I was hoping. I don't need the extra work of replacing it. Oh, and I apologize for the duplicate posting. Got interrupted during the posting and didn't realize that I had already pushed the button. Hy.
