Hi, I have a 200hp 1989 evinrude and I lost spark suddenly. Following the shop manual I troubleshooted until I reached the sensor coil resistance test. The timer base failed this test, i removed and inspected it. I noticed one of the (magnets?) had a big chunk missing out of it. The other was in tact and flush. I've attached pictures, not sure if they're magnets or just electrical contact strips. But anyways, this probably would be my problem right? Prior to losing spark, i was having a hard time getting the motor started. It would fire, the bendix would pop down and then die immediately. could the timer base cause that problem too?

Also what would cause the timer base to wear out like that. just time?
Thank you. timerbase 3.jpg

I do not believe there is anything wrong there ,and there are no magnets in the timer base itself..------What readings do you get on the sensor coils?

trying to upload a picture to show the test results better, but wouldn't allow me.

D to D= 650
d to A =1050
d to b and d to c= 0. (this is where the test failed, should be 970 +- 100.
