I have a problem wih the throttle on my 8HP Evinrude (1980 I believe- model E8SLCSS). It runs fine but when you release the throttle, it starts to slow down. In other words, the twist grip throttle control will not hold its position when released. It is worse at high speeds slowing down faster. It is fine if you hold it but as this is on a sailbaot I would like to set it and steer with the tiller. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Hi Mike and welcome!

Most true sail models have a throttle friction control right on the handle. Apparently yours don't. You can drop by your John/Rude dealer and order one. PN 174741. Bout $19. Should solve your problem....

Good Luck!

My 25 johnsons that way I suspect it's a safety factor(in case you fall out of the boat)
