throttle cable issue

89 Mercruiser 3.0 in a Sea Ray 200. Has a rebuilt carb.

Getting ready to put the boat in the water this spring. I noticed when I rev the engine, it doesn't go back to idle, it runs a little high. It seems as though the throttle cable doesn't return to where it should, Can I spray the end of the throttle cable with a lubricant, and, what kind of lube can I use?

No need to spray it, you adjust it
remove the cable nut. rotate barrel to the rear about 3 or 4 turns , and reattach
