is it possible to remove the inner core from the outer covering of the throttle and shift cables in order to lubricate them ???. It seems like the cables i have slide with too much friction.

Re: Throttle and Shift Cables

If the cables have friction they are bad. They do not come apart and are not lubeable. It is a dry system of poly and teflon in the cable, If they are stiff they are worn out and need to be replaced. Any lube you force in will just make it worse.

Not quite true. Some Merc cables have removeable ends. Look for small stainless square head bolts in brass or stainless collars, on plastic ends on motor. However, it is likely the cable casings are bad, as the inner wire is stainless, or should be stainless.
