tachometer reading off??

installed new guages in my pontoon with a 55 hp Suzuki 2st (1997) All working fine and motor runs great but the tach only reads about 1500 at wide open. About what should it read, Could I have set the tach switch to the wrong position? I set it at 6.

thanks, apparently 6 is correct. What rpm should I see (approx) at wide open??

My guess would be around 5500, but I do not have a manual on it
