Tachometer pinned -even when battery is disconnected

140 hp 1985 Evinrude
Noticed today that the tach is pinned -even when engine is running, off, and even when battery is disconnected. Any suggestions?

either the connections are corroded or loose.... check everything.. make sure you have 12VDC going to the tack and on the signal wire some kind f voltage when the motor is running... its been a while but i belive its like either 5VAC or DCat idle

if everything checks time to buy a new one.... iboats.com

tach is bad
