Seems to be a hot problem lately looking through the threads...
Recently replaced the Upper Bearing cover on my SX-M outdrive due to, I guess, an incorrectly installed helicoil in the threads for the dipstick by someone prior to my ownership.
This caused the dipstick (aka. indicator) to angle rather then go in straight resulting in the dipstick to break off right at the top. Getting that thing out of the leg was a challenge to say the least.
Problem solved with a new cover, shimming per the manual and a new dipstick.
I guess my question is are helicoils or inserts of any kind used in this part from manufacturing because this one had none in any of the threaded holes?
This makes the 2 bolts to attach the rear cover two small.
Any idea what size they are by chance?
