Now that i have the '54 Evinrude I need to connect it to my recently installed rotary steering system. I have seen a couple brackets that mount to the transom but I don't know exactly how to connect the rod to the motor. I assume there is some kind of bracket that receives the steering arm but I don't knoiw what that looks like.

Does anyone have a picture of the hook-up to the motor.

Thanks

Jim

I don't have a picture, but here's how it's done. For Teleflex stuff you need to bolt SA27198 to the motor "handle" to provide the steering tab:

Then to connect the steering ram to the tab, you need SA27314:

So the setup looks sort of like this:

Uflex has similair gear to make it happen. But I strongly suggest you google "T & R Marine" and have a look at their setup. It uses a normal rotary steering system, but I like how it connects to the engine much better.

All those parts up there are really pricey for what they are. Put together ~ $130.

The T & R stuff looks really slick Paul. Am I correct to assume it doesn't require the piece that's bolted to the transom? Looks like it solves the "works at every angle" problem too.

That's the idea. Sort of a retrofit tilt-tube and link arm system.

I'm not quite certain how the geometry works exactly. Since the steering tube is on a different axis than the actual tilt axis, it seems to me that the distance between the steering tube and the "handle" on the outboard would vary as it was tilted. Perhaps the answer is that it's not enough to matter.

Still it seems to me to be fundamentally more rugged. If you were to DIY, I would think that it would be the model to follow.
