starting procedure

I have an 89 50hp force and I thought I read here once that on a cold start , that you should hold in the key choke for a minute before trying to crank the starter is this right?<br />I have always just pushed in the choke when I was cranking<br /><br /><br />thnx<br />mark

You are doing it correctly.<br />Never heard that one before.<br />Don't know what that could possibly do accept make your fingers sore. :)

hi,i have the same motor and a few months ago i replaced the head and exhaust/water jacket gaskets and i have never had to use the choke once,i turn the key and it fires straight away(is this the norm?),this engine has had very little use before i got it.

You have to choke most of them that I have had.
