I have a 97 Four Winns Sundowner 5.7 dp i bought new 13 years ago. Now I have never had any trouble with this boat in 13 years. Well yesterday while being the escort boat for a outrigger canoe race after people getting in and out of the boat sopping the cushins were soaking wet. I noticed of someone sat on the chshin over the motor the engine would sputter and die. After a few minutes I was able to get the engine fired. This happened a few times while people sat on the motor cover cushin. Could it be the water getting on the intake creating steam and affecting the distributor? The cover over the flame arrestor also covers the distributor. any other thoughts?

Re: sputter and stall

Nothing is making contact but I can see where the salt water is evaporating on the intake.
