Hi guys,
Looking at the parts diagrams online, the spark plugs for my 1979 35 hp Johnson are Champion L78V. These are surface gap plugs. I thought I read somehwere that these foul more than regular gapped plugs. The plugs that are in the engine now are NGK B9HS10. What plugs would you recommend?

Thanks,
Pat

Take the Champion L78V information to your local marine suppier and they'll cross reference and match it up. The last time I went to my local West Marine they provided the NGK as a replacement.

35HP 1977 - 2000 Champion QL77JC4 gap= .030 Current BRP recommendation.

Don't rely on a car parts place for proper plug type.

Thanks for the input guys. A local marina that services Johnson's has the L78V's. Should I not be using them and use the QL77JC4's instead?

Thanks again.

You're on your own with anything but the recommended plugs.
