SmartCraft GPS hook-up?

Hi,

I just bought a new (used) boat that is equipped with a Verado engine and SmartCraft instruments.

Also just ordered the Northstar 657 combo unit with the SmartCraft gateway and Y-cable for connecting it to the Smart Craft system.

Question: by connecting the GPS unit via the SmartCraft gateway, will this give speed-readings to the SmartCraft system automatically? Or, will I still need to input speed readings via the separate NMEA-connection?

Thankful for any input.

I believe you will have too hook up the blue and white NMEA leads. I don't think the gateway alone will provide the input needed...

Thanks, Rick. You were right, and a service technician from the local Brunswick company just confirmed the same. Thanks for responding!
