I have this little aluminum 12 foot boat that I'm completely redoing the interior in, I'm going with a wood slat floor, and was thinking about a non slip material to mix in with the varnish, would ground walnut shells work ok? is a non slip floor really nessessary? or is there a better means or material other than ground walnut shells to make it non slip?

Personally, in such a narrow boat I don't know how much standing I would be doing.

sandblast the surface of the wood prior to varnish to give it some tooth

Didn't find the post until today, so walnut shells? You held off just over 24 hours before going with your idea

For future reference the very best non skid additive out there is the Epifanes poly beads.
