I've got a little Peterbourgh 14' fiberglass V hull speed boat. It came with a '65 SkiTwin 33hp on it in rough shape. Got motor running decent but base gasket is gone. Due to rust and corrision and it looking real rough not going to fix it. I'll keep for parts. I've also got a QD19, QD21, QD23, FD20-C all are short shafts where I need a long shaft. I have a chance to buy either a '70 skitwin 33hp or a '60 40hp lark II. I know most of the parts between the 33 and 40 will not interchange except ignition parts flywheel and starter. Assuming both engines are in the exact same condition mechanically and cosmetically. Which would be a better motor? Why? I enjoy working on my own outboards. I am mechanically inclined so doing maintence isn't an issue. From what I can tell is the Skitwin easier to service due to it not having the extra shroud on the leg that the Lark does? Any other differences that should swing me one way or the other?
