Shift shaft bushing removal tips

1989 alpha one.
I am removing my upper and lower shift shaft bushings and replacing them with the new type. My upper was leaking and made my shifting an issue. Those damn things are in there good and I don't want to break anything. So any tips or tricks on removal and installation would be great. Anything i should avoid stuff like that.

I used a brake caliper tool from the local auto shop:



Worked like a charm...
