Shift Cable Question

I am looking to replace my shift cable on my 1983 115hp Johnson. I see various lengths.

Do I simply remove the old one and measure it and buy the new one accourdingly?

Yep. Or it may be marked. They generaly are actually a few inches longer end to end than the called length.

it should have a number on it. the last 2 numbers are usually the length.
