Rudder posts weeping water. Is it a big deal to fix or adjust?

After many days of wondering where the water was coming in my boat, I realized it was the rudder mount assembly. Can these be tightened or once they leak, they must be totally rebuilt?

Welcome

Like many questions it may need pics
But a rudder that is leaking can not be tightened to stop/slow a leak. Seal(s) need to be replaced

Try to post a picture of the rudder assembly. Some have adjustable packing gland. Also sometimes the leak is where the mounting flange is sealed to the inside of the hull. That can be caused from running aground or striking a submerged object.

Check if you can tighten the stuffing box packing gland

Most likely a Buck Algonquin. If you need new packing, it's cheap.

Many have a grease zerk as well

Agree with Kenny, if you hit something, that damage would not be an easy fix

What is a grease zerk? The top of the rudder shaft has an assembly with bolts holding it down. I'll send some pics thanks for the message
