I hope this is the right area for my question. I have a 1983 16ft gunman. The 1984 75hp mercury I have is shot. im looking at repowering I have my eye on a 2004 115 Yamaha four stroke. It's a pretty good deal. My boat says 100 hp max on the sticker do you think the 115 Yamaha would be ok?

If you don't have legal restrictions go for it, you can always throttle less or restrict throttle. Check if boat will hold well the extra weight of 4 strokes engines on transom compared to 2 strokes weights of that time.

Happy Boating

Make sure your transom is in good to great shape and make sure and check with your laws in the state and area that you live, before going over the ratings plate numbers.

You need to contact the agency that handles boat licensing, here where I live, it is our Dept of Fish, Wildlife and Parks and our Dept of Motor Vehicles.
