Replacing lower shift cable

After being helped here and a few calls, I've determined I need a new lower shift cable. I did a search with a lot of hits, but didn't see a topic specifically asking how to replace it. So I'm wondering if there is a write up somewhere and if the outdrive unit has to be completely removed. I can get the cable and gaskets for about $80 but to have it put in is going to run around $400, rather do it myself.

Thanks
