I'd like to replace the T/T unit, as I have a leak from pitting on
the tilt ram. Already removed the tilt pin. Do I need to remove the actual outboard engine
off the boat, or is it as simple as just removing the six bolts from the T/T unit.
I am getting conflicting advice on this. Just want to make sure I am doing
the right thing. Thank you for your help.

No need to remove the Motor remove the bolts from the sides lift the motor up and support it, remove the top pin (PIA) and the unit can be removed. If however you have the older T&T unit bolted on it requires you to remove the PORT (LEFT) side bracket only. Get a visual of it you see if it clears without touching the bracket on the STARBOARD side.
FYI..I have two 87 140 v4 engines, both removal process applies to me since one has a 79 T&T bolted up to it ..
New style T&T This is from a 87 140 v4

Old Style from a 79 140 v4 notice the difference ?

I hope you have luck with your upper pin, if you have trouble dont mushroom the end. Come back for some tricks.
