2002 Mercury 200 H.P. carb engine<br /><br />Have any of the Guru's on here changed the factory reeds for the new carbon ones? And was it worth the effort to do so? <br />Thanks... I am looking for more horsepower.....

There is not alot of HP in reeds, better acceration and mid speed preformance at best

I just removed the bouysen reeds I put in about six or eight years ago.. they were leaking bad.<br />I paid about 30-35 bucks then ,,now they want 180 bucks !!<br />still had the original stainless reeds .<br />cleaned up the reed box,s ,put in the stockers and it now runs better than it has in years ..

That settles it then, thanks for the imput. I did not want to spend that kind of money for nothing.

Actually it depends on the boat, set up and what you are trying to do. Also a plastic reed will not tear up the motor in case of failure like a steel reed will. Never reverse the reeds.
