recirculation screens

I have a 1988 or 89 50hp force and i was wondering how you check the recirculation screens on these motors and if dirty or clogged what would it look like?

Remove bolts 18 and 19 in the photo below.
Remove parts 11-17.
Part 10 is the screen, it will be plugged if dirty.
