Quicksilver Mercury Marine Harness adaptor Question

I have purchased a 1996 Mercury 150XR6 outboard with no controls. I then bought a used Mercury Control Box (RC 881170A13), which shows a manufacture date of 07/13/05. Control box has a 14 pin male plug and another purple female adapter. Motor has a 8 pin female plug. I have establisted I will need a Mercury Harness adapter (14pin female to 8pin male). Mercury told me I needed adapter 84-896539T01, which has two of the 14 female pins deleted. I have found another harness (part number U/K), and it has all 14 female pins intact. Does anyone know why the two pins are deleted and which harness should I go with?

You might post this in the Mercury forum. Fazt is sure to know. Also there are wiring diaghrams for the Mercs at Maxrules.com. If you compare them, you should figure out the unused wires.
