So I measured my steering cable and needed to order a 12ft cable, so I did such, it came in on friday however its quite a bit longer then the orignal cable but only on the black cored spiral part the sheth is perfectly matched, does this make a differance should it be cut to fit? or is the cable actually too long??

also the motor mount ends are different, the orignal cable has a threaded end and the replacment does not? do these ends just screw off? or do I have to modifiy how the cable mounts to the motor???

Re: questions about new steering cable

its an 80's 70HP merc 3 cyl I'll have to check on the motor to see if I can remove the threaded adaptor, and put the bolt directly through the 'eye' on the new cable,

Re: questions about new steering cable

below are the pictures of the connection at the motor, and how it connected to the older cable, its kinda like a universal joint/hime-joint however the bolt that does go thought it will connect to the new cable just not the special end piece.
