My 1986 28 SPL starts up on cold start with one bump. After running for a few minutes i kill the motor. Within 5 min of killing the motor it starts right up no problem. Now if try to start it after 5 min it wont fire. It takes 5 to 6 bumps of the key for it start. After Each of the 5 bumps it seems to get closer to starting each time. Then once it starts I am good to go. Now if I kill the motor and wait 30 minutes then try to start if fires right up.

I cant tell if its lean or rich when its trying to start. It DOES NOT smoke when its trying to start and finally after it starts its not burning off any excess oil like it was flooded.

Motor has rebuilt carb, rebuilt fuel pump, new thermostat, new water pump, new power pack.

any body experience this problem.

also I am not choking it when its hard to start. The motor is warm and should not need choking.

thanks

Re: Question about warm start issue

It appears to me that you have a fuel supply problem, either fuel pump or fuel line leak. Or your electric choke solenoid is not functioning properly.

Or how to check the electric choke?

Can the electric choke cause a lean start after motor is warm?
