I searched with no luck.

What RPMs should my 1990 115hp Yamaha idle at?

I had some work done, and asked him to check the idle...it now idles at 1000 rpms.

Re: Proper RPMs at idle?

Hi, I'm a newbie but most people here suggested me that idle RPM should be 1000 or even less (1000 is still on the high side). At least the suggestion was for me to fix the grinding noise when I start putting into gear. I guess 1000 RPM is ok if yours does not make that grinding noise when put to gear. Cheers

Re: Proper RPMs at idle?

On my Suzi 150 SS, Mine is idling 850, but when I put it in gear mine has a tendency to pull down to 700 and sometimes stalls before I can give it a bump on throttle. I'd be happier if mine idled at 1000, so when it goes into gear, it'd only pull down to that 850 that I have when in neutral.

yamaha 115 idles at 750 in neutral, 650 in gear(under load).

no outboard that i know of is designed to idle at 1000rpms. idling higher than the spec causes a lot of unnecessary stress on many parts due to the rough shifting.

It's weird but the owner's manual of my 2006 Yamaha 40HP specifies the idle rpm to be 1000rpm. Same as 100:1 mix when most people would recommend 50:1. The manufacturer wants the motor to die early or something???
