Hi All, I have a 98 Renken cabin cruiser 5.0 merc 220 HP Alpha 1 (5500 Lbs.) I am turning a 15x19P stainless 3 blade prop, max rpm 4200 @35 MPH w/3 adults 1/2 tank of gas,(Recomended range 4400-4800) I need to get the rpm,s up to range,I mostly cruise, no waterskiing, she gets up on plane pretty fast except when loaded up good, then labors a bit till she gets up, I am looking for the most cruising MPH with lowest RPM, would a 14.5x17 or a 15x17 be the way to go. Thanks in advance.

Re: Prop ?

If it planes quickly but can't rev out, it may be an engine power issue rather than a prop issue. Those two symptoms you described are typically mutually exclusive.

I'd be sure it's tuned up, the flame arrestor is claen, there are no obstructions in the exahaust (broken flapper perhaps???) and that the distributor is advancing properly before prop shopping. Might save yourself some money.
