I ordered a used starter and bracket for a 1969 25hp Evinrude off of AOMCI classifieds. Starter appears to be aftermarket but has a part number 585061 which seems correct. The starter appears too "fat" and the bracket won't bolt up because the starter hits the intake manifold. The bracket is correct. Any ideas?

May be the wrong bracket. Looks like that's what's hitting. Does anyone know if part number 333929 is the correct bracket?

going in circles a little with your question ? interesting mystery on this end. Frustration on your end.

Need to ask -- What?s the basis for thinking that is the right starter and bracket for your motor? I haven?t come up with a model number for a factory electric 25 ('69), so a model number would be good. (Though maybe you are converting a manual start.) I?m thinking maybe there were only kits for 18s and 25s, and no factory start models, but that doesn?t seem quite right either.

Thinking a 33hp starter and bracket (say, '69/?70 or so) might fit your 25(?). Your starter appears to be the one for the ?50s 18s (35s too, I think, with a different bracket). The part number is obsoleted but cross referenced. I?m thinking the 33hp starter might be a little slimmer -- no idea whether the bracket would fit, but can glimpse the 33 bracket in an online parts blowup. The bracket you reference is different from the 33hp for ?69 -- not sure what it fits.

Many of the 18 / 20 /25 models left the factory as electric start !!!------Trouble is some sellers simply do not know what fits what.-------And no there is no chance that the 33 hp starter and bracket will fit a 1969 25 hp either.-------------You have bought the wrong part to fit your 1969 25 hp , that simple !

???????---For one thing the 33 hp starter mounts on the starboard side of the motor and the 25 hp needs a starter on the port side.---- So that is a total impossibility.----Just order the correct parts from an experienced seller !!!!!!

sorry lindy. haven't located a '69 25 electric there yet, either..... Maybe you will have better luck.

[post a model number for your motor.]

Motor is a 25902D. It was manual start and I'm trying to "upgrade" it for client who wants electric start. The starter/bracket I bought was supposedly from a '69 Evi 25hp, but apparently not. The bracket number I got is 333929. I'm thinking maybe a 317328 would be the right one, but I haven't found a parts list for the motor with electric start. The parts list I find only show the pull starter parts. Also the starter I have (585061) doesn't seem to reach up high enough to engage the sprocket teeth. By holding the bracket in it's proper position, and manually extending the pinion up as far as it will go, it just reaches the bottom of the sprocket teeth. The pinion is 11 teeth and they seem to mesh properly with the flywheel teeth.

No Title

I don't have the parts list for a 1969, but 1968 and 1970 both use 308482 starter bracket. So, it is reasonable to assume 1969 would be the same.

All parts sites list an accessory starter kit for 1972 and newer models only. They list the bracket for a 1972 25hp as 317328. But I haven't been able to find any info to confirm that that bracket would fit a 1969. I know that there must have been kits for earlier models, as I have worked on several 1960's 18hp motors with electric start. By the way, the starter does mount to the port side of the engine.

????????--The starter bracket for this 22 cubic inch motor was essentially the same from 57 to the 1976 models !!!!!------Many of these left the factory as electric start too !!

Matter of fact, 308482 is replaced by 317328 is replaced by 126050 is replaced by 126256. That should get you enough options.

Thanks guys. So will my 585061 starter bolt up to that bracket? Or will I need a new starter also?

Starter Diameter is 3". I checked the numbers and the unit is from a late 70's 25/35hp engine. Has the solenoid bracket attached to the starter bracket.
