My power trim works good when i fist use it after it sat awhile.then its like it gets hot and the motor will stop..if keep holding switch it will jump a few times here and there and then nothing..i let it cool off and it works fine for a few seconds..then samething. the wires were already cut next to trim motor so i seperated them and went straight to batter to see if its a switch problem. no luck..i'm wondering if there is a relay inside the motor.its a 1 cylinder trim motor with 3 wires..also..iwould wrong oil make the motor stop? i would think not...goes on a 1985 40hp johnson.serial number J40ELCO..any help would be greatly apreciated.

Re: Power Trim motor stops working!

There is a circut breaker inside the trim motor. You can take the motor to a rebuild shop and have them install new brushes and bypass the circut breaker. After you bypass the breaker, install a 20 amp fuse between your trim motor and the battery.
Use dextron trasmission fluid for the pump.
