Power Tilt Fitting

My motor is a 1982 Johnson 90 HP
In order to change my power tilt/trim fluid, I opened the fitting at the bottom of the tilt cylinder to drain it. Now, with the system refilled, the fitting leaks whenever I operate the tilt/trim. Is it recommended to use a sealant on the threads of the fitting and if so what works best?

This is the fitting. I'm going to replace the o-ring inside, but is there a thread sealant that would work well in this location also?
