Please help identify this engine

I have recently bought a boat with this outboard, it appears in great shape and runs well... im just trying to find a model/year for this engine, its a 90's mercury 90HP outboard, 2 stroke... looking to find the year. i cant seem to find the serial number on it, maybe im just looking in the wrong spot, but here are some photos.

This link will take you to the iboats page on where to ID the serial number. Looks to me like your motor has been repainted. The plate may have been painted over.

Mercury only used those clam shell covers for a few years. Late 80, early 90s. That will help narrow it down.

1988-1990 year more likely a 89 as the regulator is "big'n"
