Hello

Any techniques to making an old motor cover (well cover is probably not the best word I mean the thing the cover goes on, the metal that fits over the whole shebang. hood?, casing?, top?, enclosure?, what is it called anyway?) look original and new? I suppose you sand and paint it like an auto body but what about the decals or painted on names. I would really like to see
some project pics of such an undertaking.
My 1957 18 HP Johnson seahorse was sprayed over somewhat, probably many years ago and yet some of the writing still shows through. I would really want to paint it original but am not even sure what colour it was. Is there a way to find these things out .

Thanks

Re: Painted top ends

The brown color was "Holiday Bronze" I think...I parted out a frozen 58 18hp on ebay. Post over in the Boat Restoration forum for a better shot at what to do. Also keep an eye on ebay...
