Alright this is interesting-

Went to pull my drive off to replace the bellows and service the u joint, and one of the bolts has been replaced with a locking nut similar to the type you find on alloy wheels of cars.

Where can I find a key for this? Guess my boat came from a bad neighborhood in Mass to need this kind of thing.

Re: Outdrive nut lock?

Don thats pretty much it, a little different.

I just cut the outer cover off and used a big screwdriver and hammer to get it off.

Problem solved, guess I should have tried that before I ran in and posted.

Thanks.

Chances are you got a lock from McGard like the one above.

Click on the above link and it'll take you to their site. You can get a replacement "key" from them if the original owner registered it with them and after you jump thru a few hoops.

I would get 2.

I keep one in my tool box and the other one is up under my dash held in place with a plastic zip-tie. Same with my prop lock!!

Cheers,

Rick
