outdrive knocking goes away when i take prop off

I have a 1975 mercruiser 888 a couple of weeks ago while i had the muffs on i hit a wooden ladder in the yard....i know bonehead move. so anyhow so i start it up in the yard again this morning and there is a knoking in the outdrive. I check the oil its full and clean and right color. I took the prop off and the noise went away and the prop shaft seems to be turning true. could i be so lucky and it just be the prop that is the problem. It was knicked up and chunks missing on 2 of the 3 blades with the 3rd being bent just a tad at the end. I am hopeing the prop is just out of balance.
