out drive dip stick

i have a 1997 volvo penta 3.0GS. Ser # 4110143168, out drive is a volvo penta cobra sx ser.# 4112028714. I recently got this boat and have been going through it checking things over. I went to check the oil in the outdrive and there is no dip stick on the screw..........I was wondering how long it is?? also could it be in the outdrive? is it safe to take that cover off and look inside, not sure if things will fall apart if i take it off.....thank you

I would assume that you have a dipstick in the top of the outdrive. See the below photo, the eye bolt on the top of the drive is the location of the dipstick. Are you saying you removed this bolt and there was no dipstick on it? What is the model no. after sx?

sx-ot1-1.97,sx cobra, prod#3868397. yep, thats what I am saying, I removed the plug on top of the outdrive and there is no dipstick on it.
