I still have a 35 year old 50/10/2 old school charger, with the meter as only method to see when charge is close to complete. I always took it with me on boating/camping trips and needed it maybe 2 times. I understand from the warnings on it to NOT leave it on all the time in any mode. I am kind of afraid to use at home, as I am getting somewhat forgetful these past few years, and is why I got the newer smarter ones. Much less stress when my initial "old school" reaction kicks in as I "finally" remember I have had a battery on it for a while.
