I was talking with a friend about putting a new timing chain on my 1978 OMC800/Ford 351. One thing led to another and he started talking about why not replace the intake manifold, and up the horsepower beyond the 240 it is rated at. The boat could use the extra HP, but I wonder what the design limit is on the outdrive?

If you've got a 800 Stringer Drive,........

You should be concerned about What you can do to Baby it for as Long as Possible.........
Rather than How Hard you can Beat it..........

I don't believe that Anything bigger than a 260hp Chevy was used with that, Drive.........

The biggest engine bolted to a OMC 800 is a 5.7L. As mentioned, 260HP is the limit. I would think you are safe as far as adding the intake. You are at 240HP, would a intake push it over 260HP?
