I have an 83' OMC Stringer. When shifting into forward the shift lever travels about 1/2 way down before acceleration. When shifting into reverse it grinds and thumps not engaging well at all.

Is this tough to tweak.?

Re: OMC Stringer shift adjustment

That could be part of the problem, with the stumbling, on the other thread.

There is a adjustment at the carb cable, where it is fastened to the manifold the black knob.

And there is a adjustment at the shift converter, for the shift cable.

You got to tweak it grasshopper.

Take your time. and try to keep everything in one thread.

Do you want don s to merge the 2 threads you have open into one ?

If yes pm message him and see if he will do it for you.

Maybe you can put up the package you have in the signature and it will show up at the bottom so people will know what boat and package you have.

Thanks, I will do that. I guess I owe you a beer or something for the time you are spending on the "novice".

What would make me happy is that you learn from me and every other guy here and latter give back what you learned to a novice latter.

Understand grasshopper ?

Ok thought about the shifting problem.

Do not panic if you can't adjust it at the shift converter.

Post when you get to that point.

When you removed the lower you get the pin in the right hole when you reinstalled it.

I mean the lower cable where it connects to the shaft. There are 3 holes there if i remember.

You get it back in the same hole ?
