Read alot of great responses to the oil changing post. I have a cobra outdrive hooked to a 4.3 omc. The manual says to use ONLY OMC hi/vis - this has become harder and harder to find since OMC's demise. Is it ok to use other name brand hi/vis lubes and what name brands do you recomend?

I use a brand called CRC hi vis. I get it from my local Napa Auto parts store..The guy there said the ultra HPF is a higher grade gear oil than the Hi/Vis, but I stick w/ the Hi/Vis

well, omc as far as i know didn't own their own oil refinery. i've used lubrimatic for years, never had a problem. what these companies like merc & omc do is just put there logo on motor oils, gear lubes, sealents, etc. then they tell u to use their brand. but it's manufactured by who knows what oil co.

Go to any local Johnson/Evinrude dealer and buy it right off the shelf. Same stuff, just changed the OMC name to Bombardier.
