I have a 1976 25 horse Johnson, and am wondering about the oil mixture. I would like to use AMS Oil Marine 100:1. Is that safe? Or I could mix it at a ratio of 80:1 as well? Just wondering, any help would be great!
AMS oil is a brand, it is recommended for tcw3 and api-tc applications. It is a outboard oil. The bottle says that it prevents wear and rust at lean mix ratios. It says that 80:1 is ok as well as 100:1. It comes in an easy to use bottle that is 8 oz. Any other thoughts? Thanks!
Amsoil swears by their 100:1 mix and has been for a number of years. So far they haven't gone bankrupt from warranty/liability claims. However, I am not going to do it in my motors. Or tell anybody to do it in theirs.
Anything that says it can run on 100:1.........ignore it. 50:1 is about the leanest any outboard should be run at. Motors that spend a lot of their time at WOT, I would bump the mix up to 32:1 If they troll 85% of the time or more, then it's okay to run leaner.
