I have a 2.5 MerCruiser and I need to change the oil.
Is there much of a difference between Fram filters and the quicksilver or other marine filters?
I dont want to replace it with an auto filter if there is a difference in what or how they filter.

Re: Oil Filters

I have used Wal-Mart brand for years with no problems. At wot or when oil is cold it by-passes the filter anyway..,no matter what brand you use

Big Dee,

Thats pretty much what I figured. I just wasn't sure whether or not the marine ones were any better considering how they were double the price of an automotive filter.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Oil Filters

Some people say that a marine filter has a higher flow rate, and the automotive has better filtration. Marine filter $8.00 Auto $3.00?? I use either or, depending where I am when I remember to pick one up.

Re: Oil Filters

Fram filters are a joke. Get one made by Dana Corp. (WIX or NAPA filters) Your Quicksilver & Volvo filters are probably good construction.
