One more question:

Does it matter what brand of oil as long as it has the TC-W3? At the local supermarket, they carry their own, very cheap brand. It's about 1/2 the cost of the pennzoil sitting next to it. I've used it twice, and couldn't tell any difference, but would hate to sieze a motor over $5. It has the TC-W3 on the bottle.

Thanks.

Cheap oils usually just have the bear minimum amount of additives in the oil to meet TCW-3 specifications. Better, higher cost oils go above and beyond. With that said, the cheap TCW-3 oils are still better than the oils available in 1965 when your engine was new.

I agree with TLL. Cheap TCW3 oil will not cause your engine to seize. If it seizes, it's due to something else. Cheaper oil will also smoke a bit more, but I like the smell of outboard.
