No compression!

2004 225hp DI, no compression on #3?(bottom cylinder on right side when standing behind motor). I can not afford to take one to the shop right now, but I would like to diagnose the problem. The spark plug was not dirty, had a little blackness on it. Guys are telling me it could be anything from valves stuck open to broken ring to busted head. Is there anyway a guy can find out? I would LOVE it if a valve was stuck open. Thanks for the replies.

I have blown the heads on another smaller motor before, doesn't really act the same. There is a little vibration but not bad, starts great every time, I was fishing a tournament, slowed to idle to go under a bridge, when trying to get back to WOT i could only get about 3/4 rpms and less power. Co-angler got up on front deck, we were able to get on pad and get back to the dock.

By the way it's # 5 cyl. Pull the cyl head and take a look.
