I swear I'm almost done haha. Wiring question involving connecting my gps to VHF for dsc and other functionality I don't yet know about ....

Both have a wiring diagram but its not too descriptive so I need clarification

VHF has the following

NMEA out
NMEA in
Gps in
Ground (separate from power ground)
External speaker pos grd

Gps has

NMEA in
NMEA out
Comm 2 rx
Comm 2 tx
Power/grd
Alarm?

So do I just connect the NMEA wires to their opposites (ie- VHF NMEA in to gps NMEA out) then connect VHF gps wire to gps' comm 2 tx?

Re: NMEA wiring question

Connect in to out, etc. You don't need the Comm 2 connections

Re: NMEA wiring question

What are the makes and models of the two devices? Do you have the owner's manuals?

Re: NMEA wiring question

Simple,
connected correctly it will work.
Connected in reverse, it will not work and will not damage equipment.

Re: NMEA wiring question

Go to Uniden's web site, you can download a PDF of the owners manual. My manual tells the colors of both units wires, and how to connect them. Chartplotters use more wires, so the Vhf can talk to the gps also. If you just want vhf to know gps location, your gps should have a blue (output) wire, and it connects to the green (gps data in (+)). Then ground vhs to gps. Seems the NMEA outs are for chartplotter hook up. Hopes this helps.

Re: NMEA wiring question

Does the "Thanks guys" mean you got it wired up, and it works? Just curious.
