Hello folks, i just bought a used nissan 5hp. It starts and runs well but when it idle's it vibrates heavy, what i mean is if i keep my hand on the throttle it feels like one of those coin-op massage beds in a cheap motel of yesteryear. is this normal for this kind of motor?

It's a 1-cylinder, and they never idle perfectly. What is your idle RPM? Too slow and it will be rough.

Good vibrations besides being an excellent Beach Boys song, is also due to having swivel bracket steering load to loose and or worn swivel bracket bushings. Adjust friction plate butterfly screw on middle swivel braket to achieve more load while moving tiller sideways. Don't overtighten screw or will end screwing the friction plate interior assy.

I was a little guy when the boys came out with that song but i think it's their best, thanks for the info on the swivel bracket and i will try to adjust.

A one cylinder engines vibrates more than a 2 cylinder ones, so probably will just lessen current vibrations a bit, that's the spirit of 1 cylinder engines. Congrats, excellent mint cond 5 HP engine cheap purchase, previous owner didn't know what he was selling...
