Hello all,
Recently purchased a procraft 180 with 150 hp mercury. Took it out on the water this past weekend with a few difficulties where I could use some advice.
My throttle and gear shifter are located on 1 stick. When I move forward, the rpms increase and merc goes into gear. I have read online that you want to move the motor into gear quickly in order to reduce gear wear and tear. The problem that I am having is that I don't seem to have an "idle" speed with this method. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pushing it all the way forward, just seem to be unable to get into gear without going a little faster than I'd like to be going. I guess I am having difficulty figuring out how to get into gear without throttling up at all. Docking / trailering is where I am having the most problem with this. What am I missing?
