Just recently acquired a 17ft center console fishing boat with the force 85.

I know nothing about boats. This is my first boat. It didn't come with any manuals. They guy i bought it from said it ran fine but i dont always trust sellers.

1. can you recommend a good service manual? (clymer, solec, others)

2. what are some basics I could do to check the motor, so it doesn't leave me stranded. 1988 force 85

3. about the hull, transom plug is plugged when in the water correct?

4. I can't tell if the boat has a bilge pump I flipped all the switches i dont hear anything like a motor turn on. but when i was looking through the inspection compartments i found a cover to an automatic float switch. so i'm assuming theres one in there somewhere. (the boat is a 1988 bayliner trophy 1703) Does anyone know if these boats come from the factory with a bilge pump?

I've been on the forum searching. any other tips would be great. keep in mind im new to boats.

#1 OEM manual, then clymers, solec if nothing else is availiable. #2 Search and read waking up a sleeping motor. #3 Well Duuh. #4 My bilge pump is very quiet. Have someone help with an ear close to the bilge when you flip a switch. Don't know if the pump is stock.
