trying to get it running, would my 86 johnson 40 hp pontoon have a lanyard or something like a kill switch ?

it will turn over but no spark at either hole.

I don't know, but if it does, you will see a small round female socket on the helm, normally near the key.

sorry for jumping the gun . i found out it does and when i pushed it fired up for the first time in 17 years . VERY EXCITING
